“I am woman, hear me podcast”: Acast celebrates International Women’s Day

This is some text inside of a div block.

Podcasts create space for all voices—even those often overlooked elsewhere.

This International Women’s Day and throughout March, Acast is making additional commitment to championing women voices in podcasting; from the women behind the mic, to women who listen. Because when women speak, we should all be listening.

Powering women’s voices in audio

Podcasts offer a vital space for real conversations that matter to women. Yet, in a world where women make up half of the population, they only make up 25% of the voices in the news media globally. At Acast, we’re committed to changing that.

From fascinating stories covering politics, careers, sport and relationships, or just having a good laugh—women turn to podcasts for content that truly connects. It’s a level of representation rarely found elsewhere in the media.

And the data backs it up: women podcast listeners are 12% more likely than men to say that podcasts provide them with companionship. Podcasts don’t just inform and entertain—they foster connection. That bond extends beyond audio, too, with women audiences 17% more likely to follow their favorite podcasts on social media and 38% more likely to be interested in live podcast events.

For brands, this presents a unique opportunity—one where authenticity and influence go hand in hand. Through working with women creators in podcasting, they can reach passionate audiences and add value to the conversation.

What podcasts mean to us

Hear from some Acasters about how they relate to podcasts and the shows they recommend:

Kate Lockie, Creator Network Business Director & Amelia Chapman, Creator Network Partner Manager

(Co-Chairs, Asisterhood ERG)

“Podcasts have become such a powerful space for women to be heard. It's a platform for women to share their stories, challenge norms, and connect in a way that feels real, authentic and personal. There’s something comforting and relatable about hearing stories from other women. It's a great way for women to come together and forge communities that are hard to find through other mediums.”

Sophie Herdman, Creator Network Global Partnerships Director

“Podcasts are such a powerful storytelling vehicle, and an incredible format for sharing experiences, ideas and advice across the world. A comedy show can bring joy to someone’s day, and a fascinating interview can bring comfort, calm and a better understanding of others' experiences. They’re fun, they're important, for anyone - but especially for women, whose stories and experiences continue to be represented less in the media.”

Mohini Nanjee, Creator Network Partner Manager

Podcasting is an incredibly valuable space for people from diverse backgrounds like mine. In industries like film, TV, and music, authentic representation of life as a brown woman is rare. But podcasting breaks down many of the barriers that underrepresented women face, allowing them to share their stories in their own way—without conforming to the restrictions of other media. It’s one of the few mediums where I can easily find perspectives that reflect my experiences, culture, and identity. Its accessibility ensures that voices like mine are not only heard but celebrated, creating a space where all women, including those from underrepresented backgrounds, can find and feel a true sense of belonging in media and storytelling.”

Throughout March, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day with a range of initiatives championing and supporting all women podcast creators, listeners and those working in the industry. From, a comedy night with women podcast talent, to an Acast ad campaign amplifying women-fronted podcasts and other special events.
